Let there be happy_technology©
The world is not in any kind of danger, and no supervillian has
posed a threat to our existence, yet. But we can’t ignore the fact that the
science and technology that we are innovating everyday is feeding a snake that possibly
is going to create somewhat mess sometime in future. I am not talking about a
super sized robot taking up on earth and turning us all into its captives, nor
am I talking about a computer program that acts lively and starts murdering
people. We have seen such craps more than enough, and we can’t deny that we don’t
enjoy such fantasies, but the real issue here is not about worrying of a film
fantasy, but acknowledging the fact that science is growing fearsome along with
its sophistication.
For instance, I would be wrong if I said that I own printed books more than the eBooks I have on my computer. Besides, I have all my photos, and what not, stored in the hard drive of my computer. A question arises upon my common sense now. Really? Do I trust all my data, memories, books, information, and everything I rely upon to a pocket sized box of metal and semiconductors spinning way faster than I can even notice? The big picture here is that everything I do, whether reading, playing, or even my communication with the world is totally dependent on my computer. And even an insurance company can’t guarantee to cover my loss if I accidentally lose control of my computer.
We are so full with the news of cyber crimes being committed
daily, and plenty of people have even given up their lives because someone just
hacked into their privacy and mingled things up. The days where someone gets
inside our mind using supernatural tricks are either long gone, or are limited
to few TV shows, but with the dependency we are growing on computers, and with
the trust we showcase to our digital friends, which is even more than we trust
our real friends, we surely are destined to be heartbroken, and my concern here
is to warn you not to let it cost us much.
